Decorative (Printed) Tapes

Hello! It's... freezing!
I hear from blog buddies on eBay that it's raining and snowing and blowing every where so we are relatively lucky we are dry in Tucson... still.... brrrrr!!

I can't think of any good segway so I'll just dive into introducing Decorative (Printed) tapes.
My mom in Japan sends me care packages every now and then. She seals them with some colorful packing tapes. Every time I see it delivered to my door I immediately knew it was from my mom because of it. My husband noticed that he had never seen such things as printed tapes... so I tried selling a few, and they sold pretty well.

As a seller, I LOVE using these tapes over the normal transparent ones. A piece would add a dash of cheer on a plain manila envelope. I want a mini-"wow" when my customer opens the mail box and finds my package. I have had many compliments on my packages. This became kind of a signature of my store. I can't guarantee but may be... may be because the package stands out that it's harder to get lost during delivery!

The other use would be an easy coordination of things. I used pieces on my plain stationary like binders, pen stands, staplers, and scotch tape dispenser. These individually bought, inexpensive stuff now look like they were bought as a matching set!

If you are crafty, just having one of these may inspire some project ideas. It is great for scrap booking borders, greeting cards etc. A roll of packing tape would do a job for both scotch tapes and stickers!

I have vinyl types and cloth types, several designs of each. Please come look around in my virtual store. You can shop rain, snow or shine!

Japanese Dinnerware

Hello, and thank you for visiting! I'm just wondering if any one is reading this... feel free to drop me a line or put a smiley in the comment or something to let me know you are there :)

Well, I grew up in Japan. It was a small family of three but we had sets of plates and bowls that are quite different from what you would find here in a china cabinet of a typical American family (if there is such thing). Firstly, we each had a pair of chopsticks, usually lacquered and reusable, a ceramic rice bowl, and a plastic soup bowl. Normally we had individual rice and soup, may be a grilled fish, then side dishes are in "community plates." Some common Japanese dinner dishes are vegetables (including picked), tofu, and stir fry. I'm getting hungry. A family would share the side dishes. I don't know if they do this any more but we had a cup of green tea after every dinner. We each had our own Japanese tea cup too.

The Japanese are very careful about color combinations of their food. A perfect meal should be visually appealing as well as having a great taste. The appearance of the plates are part of coordination too. One dish might make boiled spinach more appealing than the other. The opposite is true - sometimes a clueless Japanese restaurant server here (in the U.S.) would serve me rice in a soup bowl, and it looks much less appetizing to me. That would be considered a bad manner.

Japanese dinnerware is an extension of the chef's skill. In another words a plate may inspire a chef to create a meal that goes with it. I know this because there is a TV show about it!

Having several of your personal favorites beside your 'usual' can do wonders to your dinner table. They could be great conversation pieces at your next party. You can start your collection here in my store.

Zippo Portable Ashtray ... The SAGA

I wanted to have an online store before I knew what I wanted to sell.
The range of my interests varied from cross stitching to jewelry to Japanese collectible to musical instruments to... I'm a pack rat with curious mind!

Then I remembered this souvenir from Japan... I hadn't used it yet, but it was this cool chrome ashtray with a clip. I started to bring it to my gigs and asked around, most of people said they'd never seen anything like this here in U.S. So there it was my first store item! Hooray!

Portable ashtrays are not uncommon in Japan. I remember my grandmother had one in her purse all the time, a little flat plastic pouch lined with foil. That way you can smoke where there are no ashtrays without littering.

Now these ones I have are relatively new in style. Officially licensed by Zippo, these chrome series have the nuance of classic Zippo lighters. They are both practical and fashionable, naturally a great gift for smokers.

There are 6-7 kinds of Zippo portbale ashtrays in my store. They are all heat proof (duh!), have some means of attachment for portability, and they are washable. Who'd thought keeping good manners can be so cool!
